Ashgabat - Post Report Question and Answers

What household or grocery items do you wish you had shipped to post?

People who bake have a hard time with ingredients as vanilla and other extracts, brown sugar, and some spices are difficult to get, but anything that isn't liquid can easily be shipped through the pouch. You might want to ship some beer/wine/liquor, if that's your thing. Most people I spoke to felt that they had way over-packed their consumables shipments and they shouldn't have bothered. - Jan 2024

Focus on liquids! Olive oil, wine, craft beers, liquors, peanut butter, shampoo, mouth wash, etc...Sugar was also sometimes hard to find, so I ended buying a 10 pound bag from Amazon. It's amazing what you can buy online these days! - Dec 2020

Any specialty things, favorite breakfast cereal, crackers, peanut butter, should be shipped or can be ordered upon arrival. Fully use shipment for liquids; i.e. laundry detergent, etc. since that can't be sent through the pouch. I either shipped or ordered almost everything except perishables: fruits, vegetables, eggs, milk and cheese. - Mar 2019

Shampoo, conditioner, hair dye, nail polish, white rice, and sugar - Jun 2018

LOTS more liquids, prepackaged foods, healthy snacks and alcohol. - Feb 2016

Baking supplies, American-sized clothes, kids playthings, car parts, sunscreen, contact lens solution, any favorite American branded item. - Jul 2014

I would have shipped everything the CLO told me not to bring and left everything she told me to bring. Sometimes I wonder what planet she was from. My 2500-pound consumable shipment only lasted about 8 months. Yes, it’s that bad over there. - Oct 2012

Most things are available. Make sure that your sponsor does a good job of alerting you to what is recommended for your consumables shipment. - Mar 2012
