Dili - Post Report Question and Answers

Is this a good city for LGBT expatriates? Why or why not?

No, a Catholic country so LGBT is mostly tolerated but not widely supported. - Aug 2021

There is a small LGBT community and Timor has surprised me in its acceptance of the community. I imagine there is still some discrimination and violence that targets the community, but the situation is much, much, much better than in Indonesia. - Sep 2016

Very catholic (97%) so I would say, low profile? - Nov 2013

I would not say this is a great city for gays as Timor-Leste is a conservative catholic country. However, I have not noticed any outward feelings one way or the other by locals living here. - Feb 2010
