Dili - Post Report Question and Answers

What is the relative size of the expatriate community? How would you describe overall morale among expatriates?

Large international contingent. Morale is pretty high, all things considered. - Apr 2025

Small but a large AUS population as well as Portuguese. Lots of NGOs. - Mar 2025

Good morale. A couple thousand Europe, Australia, South America, and US expats. - Aug 2021

The American community is pretty small, but you'll love the Aussies, Kiwis, and expats from all over Asia that you'll meet. There's also a good-sized Portuguese population. Morale is actually really good. This is laid-back island life at its best. - Sep 2017

Pretty good size for the island. I love the expats here who are mainly Australian, New Zealanders (Kiwis), Asian and some Europeans. They all seem to make the best of being here and are a joy to be around. - May 2017

In Dili, large. Particularly Portuguese, Indonesians, Chinese and Australians. Morale is generally good. - Sep 2016

Was good and fun. - Nov 2013

Larger than you would expect for a country/city of this size. Now that the UN has pulled out, the expat community is much smaller, but there is still quite a large presence of Australians and other expats. - Apr 2013

Large, the UN and many NGOs are here. - Mar 2010

Large. - Feb 2010
