Sydney - Post Report Question and Answers

Are there any unusual problems with insects or other infestations in housing?

Lots of roaches roam the streets, and even in the most well-maintained modern buildings or houses, roaches get inside sometimes. If that's all you have to contend with, you're lucky. Apparently someone in the Mission had a problem with leeches in their home. But don't worry, the stories of deadly insects/snakes/creepy crawlies are overblown. They are not at all common in the city. Even the deadly Sydney funnel web spider is a rare sighting (and more common in suburbs surrounded by lots of nature). - May 2023

Spiders are a regular challenge, especially in spring and summer, but most aren't venomous or aggressive. - Dec 2020

We lived in an apartment, so no issues, but people in houses may deal with insects/spiders. - May 2018

That's a sore subject for those of us who are afraid of bugs, spiders and snakes. They're everywhere and they're huge. Some of the most poisonous spiders are around here and you'll see them. The locals don't mind but I'm always scared. Even birds will come after you around nesting season! This is a wild land! - Mar 2015

Flies (they love to have a go at your face). - Nov 2014

We didn't encounter any problems, however suburban folk mentioned wearing gloves when cleaning shrubs and gardening due to poisonous spiders. Lots of poisonous critters. - Sep 2012

Heaps of spiders. - Jun 2010
