What kind of vehicle(s) including electric ones do you recommend bringing to post, given the terrain, infrastructure, availability of parts, burglary/carjacking risks, etc.? What kind of car or vehicles do you advise not to bring?
Chileans love huge pickup trucks, even in the city. Any car would work. The carjacking threat should always be in the back of your mind here, especially if you don’t have diplomatic plates. Santiago has a lot of toll roads and the toll costs will cause sticker shock. - Jun 2026
