How much of the local language do you need for daily living? Are local language classes/tutors available and affordable?

French helps enormously. Few places have English menus and services are rarely provided in English (even most of the Embassy facilities workers use primarily French). Most of the housekeepers/nannies have varying levels of English though. The Embassy provides French classes. - Oct 2020
