Cape Town - Post Report Question and Answers

What is the overall climate: is it extremely hot or cold, wet or dry, at any time of year, for example?

The weather is good most of the year. Summer does not get sweltering hot and the winter is not really a winter to speak of for anyone who actually comes from a cold climate area that gets snow. Winter is just chilly and rainy. Sometimes periods of rain last an entire week. - Aug 2021

Beautiful weather. Winters are chilly and summers windy. - Apr 2021

Think San Diego with the seasons flipped (Southern Hemisphere!). - Feb 2018

Mild and windy most of the time. Winters are chilly: not overly cold by U.S. standards, but can feel colder due to the wind and the lack of central heating in many houses. - Oct 2017

Summers - hot (high 70s to low 90s F) and very windy. Winter - chilly (40s and 50s and in the high 30s on some night) and very rainy. With the concrete and glass housing that is common here, it will be the same temperature in your house as it is outside. Bring a sweater and you'll be fine. Spring and Autumn - the best of both of the seasons mentioned above without too much of their worst. - May 2014

The year is opposite the U.S.--summer in December to March and winter in June to August. Winter is definitely chilly (lows down in the 40's at night), but it warms up pretty well during the day (high 60's or low 70's), with rain normally at night. Summer is glorious--80's, sunny, no humidity, light breezes. The kind of days that make you sad you are in an office. - Aug 2013

Mediterranean climate with cool, wet winters and warm, dry summers. Stong SE winds pick up in late spring and carry through the early summer months. Wind can always be locally strong, but you might not see a cloud for three months during perfect summer days! - Oct 2007
