Is it easy to make friends with locals here? Are there any prejudices or any ethnic groups who might feel uncomfortable here?
True friends? I'd guess it's pretty difficult due to massive socioeconomic differences (as well as pretty significant cultural differences, in general), but we did become true friends with one local (though it was through work, so that was a somewhat easy catalyst). - Feb 2025
There is very little opportunity to engage with locals outside of a work context, given the linguistic barriers and lack of structured social interactions. Because we all live in gated houses/compound there is no real ability to meet your neighbors. - May 2022
