Cairo - Post Report Question and Answers

Knowing what you know now, would you still move to this city?

Sure, it's been a totally fine tour. I won't be raving about Cairo but I certainly don't hate it. - Mar 2023

Yes, great tour - Aug 2022

Absolutely. It's a great place to live as an expat. - Aug 2022

Absolutely! Two years is not enough time. - Mar 2022

Definitely. - Dec 2021

Yes. - Feb 2021

Sure, I've enjoyed it here and wouldn't mind being here longer. There's no shortage of things to do or people to interact with, but that said I don't have another experience as a good point of reference. IE. I don't know if I'd rather live here, or somewhere else! - Nov 2020

Yeah, I enjoyed the life here and would come again. - Jan 2020

I love it here, but have constant doubts about what the air quality here has done to my child's lungs in terms of permanent damage. Time will tell, but even though we are really happy here I do wonder if spending 3 of her first 4 years of life here will cause lasting damage. - Jun 2018

Yes. - Jan 2018

No, I would not. Again, I didn't love Cairo. It had some nice qualities but overall I wouldn't come back. - Sep 2017

Yes. - May 2017

Yes, absolutely. - Jan 2016

Once was plenty - Jan 2016

Yes, absolutely. - Oct 2014

Probably not the way it is right now. It has dropped down to a 2 year tour, but we got slammed with the ordered departure. Quality of life has really dropped over the last few years. Tourism is way down and extremism is up (in place of mass protests). Egypt is an amazing place with phenomenal history, but it's very tough to enjoy under current circumstances. And did I mention the power outages during the hot summer??? Complaints aside, we're grateful for this unique opportunity and we'll cherish the fond memories (and photographs!) we're making. - Aug 2014

Yes, but two years is plenty. - Aug 2014

YES. - May 2014

My first two years in Cairo were great but the country has gone hill recently. I would have left after two years here if I had had the choice. - Apr 2014

No, and counting down until I can leave! - Mar 2014

Absolutely. We went for the adventure -- and that is exactly what we got. - Jul 2013

Yes. - Jul 2013

Yes, I like living dangerously. I guess I have a bit of a death wish. - Jun 2013

Absolutely. I've really enjoyed my time here and I know that I will come back again, at least for a visit. It has been a very interesting time, especially with all the changes that Egypt is going through, and I know that I have been witnessing history. I wish all the best for this country and its kind people. - Jun 2013

Probably not, although I have had (and continue to have) a good time. It is more about making the best of the hand you are dealt. If you have to come here, you can make it work, but I can't say I would do it again. Living through the revolution and the constant threat of being evacuated again is stressful. Egypt is on a slow decline -- and may continue to be for the next several years. - May 2013

I would not wish this post on anyone. - May 2013

Yes, I would do it again, but perhaps not four years. It's never boring, and I can't say that I love the place, or will ever come back, but I don't regret the four years. And yes, I would do it again. - May 2013

In a heartbeat! We have loved it, and would have no issues coming back here again, even with all the post-revolution changes---assuming, of course, that things don't go downhill more than they have to date! - Feb 2013

No. And when I leave, it will be with the intention of never returning. I had wanted to come to Egypt for quite some time, and it's been a major disappointment. - Feb 2013

NOOOO! - Mar 2013

Yes. But we'd like to be recognized for the sacrifices we make. This would be as simple as seeing post management demonstrate that they care about our safety and security and recognize the very real hardships and dangers we face. - Mar 2013

Absolutely. It's an experience that eveyone should have at least once in their lives---unless you have already lived in a war zone. - Feb 2013

No way! Don't come. - Jan 2013

Yes. Even with all of the unrest, Cairo isn't too bad! - Nov 2012

Not now, with the political unrest. Perhaps when the govt stabalizes, and when our son is school age and could attend CAC.Not a bad post, but the future there is very uncertain right now. - Sep 2011

Probably, at least for a short tour. - Aug 2011

Absolutely. - Aug 2011

Absolutely. - Jul 2011

Yes, any day! - Jun 2011

Yes, I had a great time. - Sep 2010

If I never have to step foot in this country again it will be too soon. - Jun 2010

Yes, there is a lot to see and do here, and Egyptians are extraordinarily friendly. That being said, I think I will be ready to leave after two years, as the crowds and pollution are getting to me. - Dec 2009

Yes, it's been good for our family. - May 2008
