How much of the local language do you need for daily living? Are local language classes/tutors available and affordable?
It is really helpful. Though the big push is to get people to speak English, it is still limited, and usually only people in their 20s. However, if you just say Konnichiwa, everyone will complement you on your great Japanese skills. However, there are lots of services in English or places that will help you get them. - Jan 2007
