Tel Aviv - Post Report Question and Answers

Is it easy to make friends with locals here? Are there any prejudices or any ethnic groups who might feel uncomfortable here?

Yes, very easy. There are definitely micro-aggressions against non-white people here, but I'm not sure how much Americans abroad will feel that. There is blatant racism in the way the Israeli government handles Palestinians (just look at the vaccine rollout), but if you aren't a citizen I think it would be less noticeable. - Jan 2022

My perception is skewed because we had local friends who lived here before we moved here and we have expanded our social circle via them. Though I mentioned that some Israelis can be a bit curt, this is also a very friendly city and I can't imagine it would be hard to make friends with locals if you made an effort. - Apr 2021

Yes, it is fairly easy to make friends with locals. Israelis are warm and in your business. I have heard several racist statements from Israelis about Arabs. We have a few Israeli Arab friends and expat friends from Arab countries, and they do not report daily harassment or discrimination, but I'd imagine it happens from time to time. - Oct 2019
