What have been the highlights of your time in this country? Best trips or experiences?

The country is beautiful and diverse. There is so much to see! Many safari parks nearby which can be done budget friendly or not. CapeTown and winelands are amazing. There is excellent hiking including drakensburg. The garden route is lovely. One of my favs was St Lucia (north of Durban). There is a safari park, beach, hippo tour and hippos often come out and walk around in the town at night! Moz, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia are also great options. - Apr 2023

Glorious travel, wonderful, high-quality shopping, beautiful scenery, outdoor activities. - Mar 2023

Lots of good hiking available. Beautiful and accessible natural scenery- Golden Gate Highlands (stay in the mountain huts), Cape Town, Blyde River Canyon, Garden Route. Excellent and affordable safaris at Kruger. Buy a Wild Card if you think you'll go a lot. - Jun 2022

Traveling, hiking, wine, food - all of the reasons one might expect. South Africans love their national parks just as much as Americans do, and the parks are absolutely a highlight of any time here. - Jan 2020

There is something great to see or do in every direction and in every part of the country. Cape Town is great, but too many people overlook Durban (including the beaches of Ballito). The mountain biking around town have been wonderful and great camping, biking, rock climbing around Waterval Boven. Staying in Marloth park just outside of Kruger has been great too. For a taste of something different, Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) and Mozambique provide an appreciated contrast to SA with hiking, biking, culture, and beaches. The country is huge and a serious tourist destination--come on R&R if you're not posted here. - Dec 2019

Definitely lots of safaris. It is a very outdoors-friendly country. - Mar 2019

Trips to the beach in Durban and whale watching in Hermanus. I have not been on safari as I am concerned there are unethical and corrupt practices with regard to wildlife in this country. - Jun 2018

There are unlimited opportunities for travel in South Africa. You'd better make a list and work on it early, or you'll find yourself running out of time to see everything in country and in the region. We love the game parks and the Indian Ocean coastline drives. And Stellenbosch. And Cape Town ... oh Cape Town. - Jan 2018

Safaris, of course. There is many places to go to check out the wildlife and country landscape. It can keep you busy for your whole tour. - Oct 2014

Safaris, trips to Cape Town, sightseeing in Victoria Falls - Jun 2012
