London - Post Report Question and Answers

Are qualified veterinarians and/or good kennel services available? Do animals need to be quarantined upon entry to the country? Are there other considerations regarding pets that are particular to this country?

The best place in the world for pets. Dogs are allowed at most restaurants, on public transportation. They can run off leash at all the parks. We flew our pets into Paris then drove the 5 hours to London and it saved us about $10k in broker and shipping fees. - Jan 2024

We did not bring any pets. - Nov 2022

Yes, good vets. No quarantine. There are kennels but they are about 70 pounds a day from what I can find. We have taken our dog on all of our local trips. He has gotten used to the train, tube, bus, ect. - Aug 2022

There are qualified vets. I'm not sure about the rules regarding bringing pets into the UK. - Jun 2017

Yup. We bought our cat in the UK and have had nothing but excellent vet care. You'll need to have your pet micro-chipped and fully vaccinated for it to be brought to the UK. - Feb 2017

Yes. Good vet care. - Feb 2016

I don't know. I know that there's a 6-month quarantine for dogs because the UK is rabies-free, but I don't know if that's changed since or if it's even accurate. I'm sure - Nov 2015

I don't believe quarantine is required, but rules always change. Very good pet care available. - Jun 2015

Quarantine is no longer required. But there is an extensive entry process. Pets must arrive as manifest cargo, which is very expensive. - Jun 2015

We brought a dog and a cat. It is expensive to bring them but there is no longer a quarantine if you follow rules closely. - May 2015

Not anymore...there is a form you can fill out and submit with certain records they require. I don't have any specifics on it. - Jan 2012

Not if you get a 'health passport' and they travel with you. You have to jump through some hoops before you leave, so check early. Otherwise, yes, a long quarantine. - Aug 2011

Only if they don't meet the Pets Scheme. Bloodwork is required 6 months in advance, otherwise they must be quaratined for 6 months. Average cost of quarantine is US$2,000-4,000 per pet for the 6 months. - Mar 2009
