What is the availability of international schools? What has been your general experience with them, if any?
International School of Hyderabad is the only one I know of and we opted to homeschool after interviewing. Nothing specific, but it didn't feel very warm and welcoming and we made other choices. Other consulate families have expressed their love for ISH in elementary school and ISH is acceptable for middle school, but it has not yet found a need to accommodate US high schoolers. They would not accept our 10th grader because she had not come from an IB/IGCSE school so she went to boarding school in the US. By the time our son was ready for high school, he had heard enough horror stories that he opted for boarding school, also. However, current post leadership is actively working on change at ISH and I feel like there may be some positive changes in the next few years but I would not bring a high schooler that I was not committed to sending to boarding school or homeschooling. I have homeschooled three children here for some part of their time here, elementary, middle school, high school. The local homeschool community has been very difficult to connect with, mostly because I have a more Montessori/Waldorf style and that doesn't seem to be popular here. When I've been able to convince folks to gather for a group social activity, it's always Sunday mornings at 8:00 am. Local children are under great pressure to perform academically, so it is also difficult to find friends who can come over and hang out, especially if you don't already know them from school. This has been the most challenging homeschooling post I've been to due to the lack of socialization opportunities for tweens/teens. There were mostly preschool aged kids while I was there. The older kids went to International School of Hyderabad. We used New York Academy for pre-K and had a great experience. It is located in Jubilee Hills, close to where we lived. The main international school is in the suburbs, closer to where the new consulate will be. - Dec 2020

INCREDIBLE International School of Hyderabad! It's the only North American accredited school in Hyderabad, is K-12 (with full IB HS program), wonderful arts-drama-music programs, full sports program and modern large campus. The school faculty is very communicative and the school surpasses even many US schools on technology used. Check out the Real School Report section for more info. None of the schools in Hyderabad are vetted by the State Department. Basically, there is one choice as far as international education. The International School of Hyderabad is located on the International Crop Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) campus, outside Hyderabad, which is 60-90 minute commute on the school bus each way. The school offers an IB program. It has been OK for elementary school; we supplement with private tutoring. High school may not be the greatest and gender ratio may come into play. Although far from being a real International School as far as organization and management, it is the best choice for Westerners. - Sep 2016
While there are several reputable "international" schools, none are accredited by the Department of State. Consulate kids, none of whom are in high school, attend the International School of Hyderabad, which is located on the International Crop Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) campus. The school is located outside Hyderabad, which I understand is a 45-minute commute for most kids. - Jan 2015
There are a number of international schools available and most parents seem pleased with the quality, at least at the primary level. The high schools also seem pretty good but definitely do your research on any accreditation issues. - Nov 2014

There is an international school that many expats send their children to, elementary through high school ages. My daughter is in preschool so I have not had experience with it. - Feb 2012
