Ulaanbaatar - Post Report Question and Answers

What are some typical ways to socialize, either with local people or with other expatriates? Are there groups or clubs that you can recommend?

It’s a city so there are plenty of bars and restaurants. Some cater to expat tastes more than others. There are charity events, embassy events, etc. If you’re a social person, you’ll stay busy. - Jan 2024

Going to restaurants, breweries, theater, or concerts. Inviting people to go hiking in the summer or skiing in the winter (I hear there are Facebook groups). Attending the "balls" that NGOs and organizations put on in the winter. The Expats and Mongolians are very friendly and its easy to meet people here. - Aug 2022

Aside from embassy, the ISU PTG is a great resource as is the international women's association (IWAM). It's a small group of expats here and chances are, you'll meet all of them after attending a few events. - Oct 2016

It's entertaining to have a social life in Ulaanbaatar. Expats tend to stick together for social events. The language barrier is a big reason that locals and expats often don't do things together. - Feb 2011

Mostly going out to bars/restaurants/others' houses. - Jan 2009
