Khartoum - Post Report Question and Answers

What is your home city/country? How long is the trip to post from there, with what connections? How easy/difficult is it to travel to this city/country?

I am from the United States. There are no direct flights from the US to Khartoum, Sudan. The flight can be done with one connection in some instances via some US cities, such as New York, Washington, DC, Houston, and Los Angeles. There is an Ethiopian Airlines flight that connects from Washington through Addis Ababa. However, the most popular connection point is Doha, Qatar. A flight from the east coast of the US to Doha takes approximately 14 hours, and the flight from Doha to Khartoum is an additional 3 hours. - Feb 2018

Washington, D.C. The trip out here is long. You can get out here with just one stopover, but only a handful of airlines fly here. No European or U.S. carriers. - May 2017

Washington, DC. Admittedly a nightmare to travel to/from KRT to anywhere in the US, as very few airlines fly into Khartoum. At least three connections, and 24hrs required to reach KRT from the US. - Nov 2016

Eugene, Oregon. - Oct 2016

DC. The trip will take two days (of annual leave if you're taking vacation) each way. The better connections are through Qatar or Addis (you'll want to pay for that business class upgrade though). Don't do the Egypt-Europe route. More than one layover will take you days to go each way. - Mar 2016

East Coast. It takes a full day to go there each way. The Khartoum-Istanbul-Dulles is a new one, and some prefer the Khartoum-Doha but the flights out of Khartoum are consistently delayed by at least 45 minutes and that causes missed flights. There is a two-layover one with Khartoum-Cairo-Amsterdam(Schiphol)-Dulles but it's miserable and takes two days to travel each way (four vacation days lost). - Mar 2015

DC - 24 to 36 hours. All European carriers have pulled out of Sudan so getting home or even to your R&R point is a long trip. You can go via Istanbul-Paris-DC; Cairo-Frankfurt-DC; Doha-DC (there are a few other routes). Flights always leave at night or early morning (11pm through 3am). - Apr 2014

Memphis, it takes about 16 hours with connections thru either Amsterdam or Frankfurt. - Jun 2011

From Washington DC it is one connection, either Amsterdam or Frankfurt...but you can get here through a number of other countries. - Apr 2010
