Montreal - Post Report Question and Answers

Are local buses, trams, trains or taxis safe and affordable?

Metro is fantastic! Buses are good but infrequent in the evening. A little pricey. - Jul 2022

Yes to all. - Aug 2020

The Metro subway runs underneath most of downtown Montreal. Affordable-ish and very safe. As of February 2018, Uber is still operating in the city and is the easiest way to get around. Taxis are also available, but you usually have to call them (this is not a place where you can just hail them on the street). - Feb 2018

Totally available, and moderately priced. I've used them all. - Aug 2012

Depends. A monthly pass on the metro is almost obscenely cheap - less than $70/month no matter where you go. A single ticket is ridiculously expensive - nearly $3.00, even if you're only riding one stop. - Dec 2009

Local transport is actually not that bad and seems reliable for commuting. - Sep 2009

Yes, all three very cheap, very safe. I don't have a car, and have never really needed one. - Jan 2009
