Volunteering for Talesmag.com

Below is a listing of our most immediate volunteer needs.
To volunteer please contact us: volunteer@talesmag.com, and enter the title of the volunteer position in the subject line. You may attach a writing sample, graphic design sample, or resume so we will have a general idea of your work experience. Once we select a volunteer, we will provide guidelines for completing the work, and agree on a time frame.

Real Post Reports Editor:

The editor of Talesmag's Real Post Reports section --- after eight years of reading about all of the exciting cities this world has to offer --- has decided to stop reading about them and start visiting those places that we would all like to experience. We wish him well, of course, but now must find a new RPR Editor to carry on our mission. Tales from a Small Planet is seeking a volunteer with expatriate experience who is willing to commit to an average of two to three hours per week to review, edit and post submissions from Real Post Reports contributors.

The RPR editor's tasks include:
-Downloading new Real Post Report submissions
-Editing Real Post Reports for punctuation, grammar, and continuity
-Cropping and/or resizing photos
-Uploading files to the Talesmag.com internet server
-Occasionally posting advertisements or other content

General Requirements:
-Basic Webmaster skills with basic HTML editing program such as Dreamweaver or Kompozer
-Good English language/editing skills
-Experience working with a basic photo editor
-Experience using a file-transfer utility program such as AceFTP
-Experience living overseas

• Graphic designer for a Tales from a Small Planet advertisement
• Writer - Legal Issues Overseas: We would like articles on one or more of the following topics: powers of attorney, property management/leases, creating a simple will and living will.
• Writer - Financial Issues Overseas: We would like one or more of the following topics: what to look for in online banking, overseas investments, credit cards and international fees, sending money to your home country when you are locally hired.

Guidelines for writers:

1. Articles should be truly useful, not superficial treatments of the topic.
2. They should apply to expats specifically.
3. If possible, they should be directed at expats of any nationality.
