The Karta ConspiracyThe Hanuman TypeBy Fritz Galt Reviewed by Patricia Linderman Imagine a spy thriller that offers real insight into countries and cultures, instead of shallow, made-up locations. Only an expatriate could write a book like that, and luckily, we have one who does: Tales from a Small Planet's own Fritz Galt. In the two novels he has published so far, The Hanuman Type and The Karta Conspiracy, Galt presents a compelling trio of protagonists: Mick Pierce, an ex-CIA agent; his wife Natalie, a U.S. diplomat; and Mick's unpredictable brother Alec, still with the CIA. The plots are tight and well-crafted: in the Hanuman Type, a terrorist attempts mass murder with a deadly strain of malaria; and in The Karta Conspiracy, a ruthless Balkan leader threatens to destabilize the region. What this reader enjoys most about Galt's books, however, is his detailed and knowledgable portrayal of their settings, from the history and landscape to the local cultural and even culinary habits. Galt has lived in both South Asia and the Balkans, and it shows. Fans of our Real Post Reports will find plenty to dig their teeth into here. Real Spy Thrillers, one might say. I recommend them highly. To read more about Galt's work, visit http://www.spythrillers.com. You can order these books now from Amazon.com! Click the titles below to order: |
