Cape Town

What are some typical ways to socialize, either with local people or with other expatriates? Are there groups or clubs that you can recommend?

Church, gyms or exercise groups, braais (cookouts), house parties. There are no particular groups I'm familiar with, but groups of all kinds are likely plentiful here. There are plenty of bars and clubs downtown near the CBD/waterfront, just be careful of criminal activity after dark. - Oct 1, 2017
During the day, do something outside or go to a rugby game. South Africans love to cook out or "braai" so most social gatherings involve a grill. - May 13, 2014
Casual dinners among friends, BBQs (called "braais"), eating out at the many, many restaurants will be a good portion of your life. If you have kids, expect 1,000 birthday parties to which older/younger siblings are often included. There are charity dinners and/or wine-tastings, if you are involved in volunteer work, museum events, if you are not. There is an active music and art scene. - Aug 26, 2013
We have lots of local friends (and did within a couple of months) and a few expat friends, and entertaining is generally dinner at someone's house or a big braai (cookout/BBQ). - Oct 28, 2007
