English-language newspapers and TV available? Cost?

We have only AFN at home and rent the box for $5/month. I'm sure others are available. - Jun 7, 2012
AFN and satellite. AFN is free, satellite is reasonably priced. - May 3, 2012
AFN and some Cable TV available at low cost. Need a PLA tv to get the channels though. - Aug 25, 2011
We only have AFN. There are many English newspapers. - Feb 20, 2011
Yes. I don't remember the cost of TV, but it wasn't cheap. Newspapers can be had, but the government censors everything, so it is pretty useless. - Apr 1, 2010
local media does have papers in English but nothing bad ever happens here or at least I never read about it in the local papers.2 English speaking radio stations playing God awful music most of the timeThere are a couple of satellite packages for TV and run anywhere from 100 to 150 per month. The embassy rents AFN decoders or you can get your own. - Feb 12, 2010
Several local English newspapers. We couldn't get the local cable service because our TV was NTSC, but we had AFN! - Jan 21, 2010
"The Times of Oman" as well as "Hi" Magazine and "This Week", the latter two are regularly published with lots of photos of people attending events as well as letters to the editor. Satellite dishes and channel packages are widely available; however we don't subscribe as we have AFN. - Mar 19, 2009
Three daily English papers, all with very similar, officially approved content. Some English weekly and monthly periodicals (going out guide, etc.). Prices are low (US$.50 for a paper), but imported magazines can be very expensive (US$15 for Vanity Fair or Architectural Digest!). There are technically only two local TV channels but everyone has one of several locally available satellite setups, offering a wide range of current and recent U.S./international programming, films, news, etc. Costs are moderate, but set-up can be expensive ($500+) if you have to buy the dish and equipment. - Feb 18, 2008
