Do you have any recommendations regarding mobile phones? Did you keep your home-country plan or use a local provider?

No trouble with cell service. My service even worked outside of Greece in Italy. The cost depends on the service. Buying a cell phone is expensive, but you can buy a SIM and use it in a U.S. phone. - Sep 7, 2013
Cell phones are everywhere and almost all of the country has coverage. Athens is completely covered by both GSM 900 MHz and 1800MHz, so you will need a multi-band phone or buy one there. Smartphones are available, but expensive, and so are the rates. - Jul 14, 2012

I have a phone with a plan and we have a prepaid phone as a backup. Both are easy enough and cheap enough to use. The folks at the stores are usually helpful with initial setup and problem solving. - Jun 20, 2008
