Advertising Guidelines

Who we are and who we reach: Tales from a Small Planet is a not-for-profit organization that manages an online magazine and resource center (www.talesmag.com). Our readers are English-speaking expatriates around the world, affiliated with the US Foreign Service and other government agencies, the official services of other English-speaking countries, international businesses, NGOs and international schools. Over 300,000 unique individuals visit our site annually, and we have had over 150,000 new users this year alone. Because our audience is highly targeted, advertisers and sponsors with products and services of special interest to expatriates will attract a larger percentage of purchasers than from a more general audience.

Purchasing Content:

Our writers own the copyright to our material, so some content you'll find on our site may not be for sale. Please contact us to request permission to reprint any article on our site, and we will get back to you with a quote that includes the author's fee, if any, and a small processing fee, not to exceed $10 if applicable. Please contact: editor@talesmag.com.

Advertising and Sponsorship Opportunities:

We have a flexible approach to advertising, so if you don't find something listed here that meets your needs, we are happy to discuss alternatives. Advertisements are placed as quoted below. Sponsorship includes a standard banner on the agreed page as well as an ad in each Smallplanet subscriber e-mail message: over 700 members reached monthly.

Advertisement Locations and Options:

  • Home Page: The gateway to Tales from a Small Planet. Most people enter from the home page to go to other areas of the site.
  • Message Boards Home: This page is especially popular with people entering the Foreign Service.
  • Post Reports: This resource is visited by thousands of people every week planning moves abroad, and is recommended as a resource for Foreign Service employees and their families. The Real Post Reports home pages for specific countries are the ideal place to promote products or service focused on that country.
  • Resource Pages: This page links to all kinds of expatriate resources. Expats check this information for everything from insurance, communications companies, and vacation resources to tax information and property management.
  • Articles and Essays: Our literary magazine provides valuable
information, insights and humor in top-quality, well-edited articles about expat life. They are normally not accessed first, but are accessed often. Since the articles usually focus on life in a particular country, advertising aimed at expats in that country can be especially effective there.
